✨ Algorithm updates

We're finally done with the Google Broad Core Update! It completed on march 28th and affected websites globally.

🔬 Keyword research

Keyword research starts with understanding keyword types. And it probably ends with topical authority, but that's another story. Ahrefs did a write up of different keyword types and how to find them. Here are most of their types:

  1. Seed
  2. Informational
  3. Navigational
  4. Commercial
  5. Transactional
  6. Long-tail
  7. Low-competition
  8. Niche
  9. Branded
  10. Unbranded

🧪 Technical

We all have the XML sitemap and maybe some of you still have a HTML sitemap (I do for some websites). But when should you use them and how? Read about it in this article by Tadeusz Szewczyk. By the way, John Mueller is against HTML sitemaps.

🎮 Tools

Recently Google Data Studio was replaced by Looker Studio. Here are some cool tips how to build a dashboard that's usefull and shows the right SEO information and data. Some of the reports you should include are:

  • Traffic performance: the standard data such as visitors.
  • Striking distance performance: which pages are about to rank high?
  • SERP market share: how are you doing in the SERP's compared to your competitors?
  • Cannibalization report: which pages are ranking for the same term?

With the mandatory relocation to GA4 people are experiencing a lot of problems. One of the major problems is having duplicate conversions. Well, in this article Robin Lord walks through the steps to make sure you don't get those. It's a good read to make sure you have all your ducks in a row. Especially now GA4 is only months away.

👓 Case study

Some of you might already know Ian Nutall (by name at least). He wrote a nice case study about how he acquired a website, then tanked it's traffic and finally got it back up and running.
